Will You Adults Stop Your Whining and Just Manage Children’s Behaviour Properly!

I can feel a super rant coming on… A little boy’s just started in my class and his behaviour in school is totally dreadful! He’s been allowed to behave like this for years and he’s just had his 8th birthday. Its astounding! Perhaps I shouldn’t be shocked – I deal with cases like this time after time. It’s part of my job of managing the behaviour of children who are so out of control that their next step is to be thrown out of school for good.

Anyway, this little guy’s behaviour is very bad…

But that’s not what the rant’s about. He’s fine – well, not just yet, but he will be…

I’m actually ranting about the adults in this boy’s school and so many other schools I have dealings with! Those adults who’ve allowed this little boy to deteriorate into the awful state he’s now in. They’re dire and dreadful!

Good heavens, what crime have they commited? Well, rather than accept any responsibility themselves they’ve got together and written whining letters to those in a higher position, complaining about this little boy…

What do they want to happen as a result? I don’t know really but I imagine they want him to be taken away and not to darken their doors again…

Hey, Liz, isn’t it fair that they should complain about his behaviour? No, I don’t think it’s fair! How’s that? I keep repeating myself in every workshop sessions, lecture and school visit – children’s behaviour’s an adult issue. Yes, there is appalling behaviour all around but the reason for it is that the adults aren’t managing it properly!

Adults have to accept that they are responsible for children’s behaviour – and those in this boy’s school have allowed him to deteriorate to this point. Whingeing and whining about a situation that adults in general have allowed to get worse and worse, isn’t going to have any beneficial impact, is it?

So, why do children behave so badly? Easy… simply because they can and they also know nobody is going to do very much about it – apart from a fair amount of whining, that is! And that doesn’t do any good, does it?

Adults need to look at their own behaviour and accept that if they want any child’s behaviour to change they’re going to have to make changes to their own behaviour first. Nothing will happen differently unless they do… It just won’t happen.

So, get a grip. If you don’t know what to do then learn what to do. It’s not difficult. Put your money where your mouth is and start doing what adults should do. Manage kids!!

You’ll be pleased to know that I’ve finished my rant!!

Why Do Our Children Need An Education Anyway?

Do you know why an education is important? We deal with this issue quite a bit on our math comic strips web site. In this article we are going to point out some reasons why you should get a good education.

Many might not know this, but a good education equips us with power. Graduating from the various steps in the school ladder (i.e.: elementary school, middle school, high school, college and university, etc. gives you power and flexibility over your future life. It’s true that some jobs provide “on the job” training, but these positions are becoming fewer and fewer as we embrace a world of globalization. Keep in mind that many employers won’t even consider you if you don’t have the minimum educational requirements.

A good education makes you a more resourceful human being. Nobody is so smart that they know everything about everything, but a good education gives you a foundation of solid principles that you will be able to apply to any situation you might encounter. Let’s illustrate with an example. Suppose someone asks you what time it is? Suppose you have forgotten your own personal watch? If you have knowledge on how to tell time, you will be able to utilize this capability with any watch or clock that happens to be around you at the time. Yes, this is a very basic and trivial example, but it illustrated the point quite well.

A great education often means that you and your family can enjoy a better quality of life. People with great educations are often the last to get laid off when the economy turns sour. It’s also true that people who lack in education have a harder time finding a new position in this climate as well.

Understanding often goes “hand-in-hand” with a great education. Suppose you are on a trip to Europe, France to be more specific. You may never have been to France before, but by educating yourself and studying about this country while at home, you will have a deeper understanding of France, and the French, before you even set foot in Europe.

“Birds of a feather flock together”, or so the saying goes. Have you ever heard the term “networking”, in a social setting that is? It basically means meeting people to serve a common goal. Networking often goes hand-in-hand with a good education, as it means you will be able to “flock” with other “birds” who share your goals and ideals. Who knows what jobs might come out of these encounters?

Aren’t people with a good education more fun to be around? They seem to have knowledge on almost any subject, and can keep a conversation rolling along. Armed with a good education, if someone happens to bring up an obscure topic at the dinner table, you will be able to join in and give your opinion. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to educate others and make new acquaintances and friends in this way? I think so…

These are just a few ways why education is important. There are a number of ways in which we can educate, such as math comic strips and math comic books to teach essential math skills to children, and we will deal with this issue in an upcoming article.

Hot Tips For Buying Baby Strollers

Are you the proud new parent of a baby and thinking that you really ought to buy a new baby stroller? A stroller is a great idea and makes it so easy to take baby out.

Modern baby strollers are manufactured with convenience in mind. Especially for parents of multiple babies, convenience is very important. After all you don’t want to find that it takes you half an hour to get baby and his or her stroller in the car before you even leave home, then another half hour to get the stroller out of the car and set up, and baby strapped in and ready to go.

What you need is ease of use of a stroller for the parents and comfort for the baby sitting in it. Modern baby strollers provide both.

And at a very reasonable price too. If you know where to shop you can find some extremely good strollers at reasonable prices, I have just been perusing some cheap triple strollers at around $200 brand new, and that’s comfort for baby and convenience for you at an extremely affordable price.

And modern strollers have some great features. They have larger wheels than in the past, so you can use them on uneven ground, they have comfortable reclining seats so baby can sit up or recline and sleep, foot rests that can be adjusted as baby gets older. And you should get storage baskets for your shopping.

But there are a few things you can remember when shopping for a baby stroller. Babies can injure themselves when in a stroller, one of the most common ways that this can happen is that the baby tries to stand up, or succeeds in standing up, in the stroller.

There are formal standards for strollers in many countries that they must meet before being sold. Here’s a few things you ought to look for in a stroller.

Make sure that each seat has a good harness that restrains baby from standing up. The harness should have at least 5 points an easily adjustable straps. It should have brakes capable of holding the stroller still with one or more babies and luggage on a slope. Foot operated brakes are very useful and one lever should apply all brakes.

The front wheels should swivel if you need them to but should be capable of being locked.

And remember. NEVER leave baby unattended in the stroller, even if strapped in. Never park the stroller without engaging the brake and if you’re using stairs always take baby out of the stroller. If you’re stopping on a slope as well as engaging the brake also park the stroller across the slope as well. And never attach a dog lead to a stroller, the dog, and stroller, can take off unexpectedly.

There’s some tips on buying and using a stroller. If you’re looking for some hot prices on cheap strollers head over to my website.

Foods To Eat To Have A Baby Girl

What to eat to have a baby girl? Sounds kind of far fetched, doesn’t it? That the foods you eat can ultimately help determine whether you conceive a baby girl or baby boy. As far fetched as it may sound, the foods you eat can indeed have an affect on whether you conceive a boy or girl.

The fact is the foods you eat can alter your body’s ph, and a woman who is trying to conceive a little girl can help tip the odds in favor of doing just that by lowering her bodily ph (specifically her vaginal ph at the time of conception) becoming more acidic.

The reason for this is the fact that it’s the man’s sperm that determines the sex of a baby. The womans egg always carries the (xx) chromosome (all girl) while the man’s sperm can carry the (xy) chromosome (produces a girl baby) or the (yy) chromosome (results in a baby boy.)

Although not very scientific, I will refer to these different sperm as the girl sperm and the boy sperm (for the sake of simplicity.)

The two sperm differ in the fact that the boy sperm is faster, smaller, and weaker (dies off easier.) The girl sperm on the other hand is larger, slower, and tougher (longer lived.)

By keeping these differences in mind, you can make life very difficult for the boy sperm by creating a more acidic vaginal environment. You do this by eating foods that are more acidic and high in calcium and magnesium, stay away from foods that are alkaline or high in potassium.

So what foods should you eat if you want a baby girl? Well start with foods rich in calcium such as milk, yogurt, and cheese. Add foods rich in magnesium such as beans, legumes, leafy green vegetables, as well as highly acidic foods such as corn, red meats, fish, and whole grains.

What foods to avoid if you want a baby girl? Any foods high in potassium like watermelon, spinach, potatoes, orange juice (believe it or not) most vegetables, and bananas. Also alcohol, and caffeine are to be avoided as well.

A quicker way to change your body’s ph (diet alone can take a few months, depending on your natural ph) is douching. Douching has been known to cause vaginal infections so if you want to try it please do so under your doctors care!

You can test your vaginal ph with test strips available online or at your local health food store. While trying to adjust your ph you should test often to give yourself the best chance of success. When you’re holding you beautiful little baby girl in your arms, you’ll know all your hard work was worth it!

You’ll find a guide to be indespensible in your quest of conceiving that little baby girl you want. There are ebooks available to take you through the process in a simple step by step manner. These ebooks can be bought (quickly and securely) and downloaded in minutes. You can find these books as well as other helpful information on my website.

Good luck in your baby gender selection efforts. Remember, even if you are unsuccessful in your efforts, you will still be blessed with a beautiful baby boy to love!

A Little Guidance for Reforming Baby Crib Sheets as Your Youngster Matures

Although buying crib bedding is an easy task, it is important to understand a few safety guidelines. A number of organizations concerned with infant safety have established recommended criteria for choosing and using crib bedding. Newborns are unable to protect themselves from suffocation so there are guidelines in place to promote their safety.

Consistent with these suggestions, kids should sleep supine without any pliable bedding material in the crib. Even though stuffed toys, pillows, quilts and comforters may look cute, soft bedding items such as these shouldn’t be in cribs with infants. To follow this guidance strictly, only a mattress covered with fitted sheets should be in the crib. If using a blanket in the crib, it should be kept away from the infant’s face by being firmly tucked into the foot of the mattress and reach no higher then the chest area.

Crib bumpers are a matter for debate, while they are often tightly affixed to the crib rails and unlikely to obstruct an infant’s breathing, many pediatricians still recommend against their use to maximize airflow. Many alternative bumpers have started to emerge in an attempt to solve such problems. Confusion about the usefulness of crib bumpers may arise because they are still include in most baby bedding. There are several opinions on crib bumpers; parents should use their judgment and decide whether or not to use them.

You should follow the American Academy of Pediatrics guidance on keeping crib bedding to a minimum for the baby’s first year, until the child can move enough to keep bedding out of his or her face. Parents should realize that until a baby is a year old, safety precautions should still be used when modifying the crib area. As soon as the baby can sit upright, and definitely before she can pull herself into a standing position, lower the mattress and remove any items that might be used as steps. For safety purposes, parents should not use crib bumpers, as children can easily use it as a step to exit their crib.

Comfortable bedding items can be placed in a child’s crib after age 1, when the risk of SIDS decreases. You should get a bed skirt and comforters that match the baby room decoration. A small snuggly blanket that fits the crib will give your child warmth and a feeling of security. While pillows are the usual bedding choice for parents with children under two years of age, toddlers generally enjoy a plush toy to keep them company as they fall asleep.

Controlling Out Of Control Child Behavior

Do you wonder if raising well behaved children is really possible? I routinely see children who scream, hit their siblings, mouth off to adults, throw tantrums and embarrass their parents, along with anyone around to witness their awful behavior.

Of course, you might have one or more little terrors of your own, who tear through your house like a tornado while you are attempting to do research on how to raise them to be productive, helpful adults.

It’s not as common as it used to be, but I’m sure you have seen kids who have excellent manners, are kind to their siblings and who are generally calm and quiet. Is it random, natural selection or is there a real strategy for raising children that are actually fun to have around?

In researching the child discipline issue, I discovered that there are many “experts” out there who are happy to tell you what to do. The bad news is that in many cases, the advice is complicated or just plain wrong.

Can you believe that some people, who get paid for their advice, actually tell parents to ignore out of control behavior and wait for it to go away? I’m sure there is worse parenting advice but I can’t think of any at the moment. Disregard anyone who tells you this. You already know that it does not work if you have tried it.

Another popular way to get kids under control is to medicate them. This never happens without a doctor of some kind being involved because their signature is required for you to get the controlled substance from the pharmacy. Drugs will not address long-term child behavior problems. At best, they will mask the issue short term. At worst, they will lead to much more severe problems down the road.

There are of course other strategies in use for getting the children under control. For example, there are complicated systems that the kids don’t understand or won’t follow, attitude adjustment boot camps and years of costly therapy. And don’t forget that old standby: begging and bribing!

Are you ready to throw in the towel yet? I was just about there myself, but I did discover a few people who had figured out how to raise polite children . Many of them gave credit to a person they called the “Behavior Repair Lady”. I decided to contact her and after exchanging some e-mails, learned about her fascinating story.

Her name is Gail and she was the mother of three disrespectful, tantrum-throwing, eye-rolling children. Despite following many experts’ advice, she was not getting any results. She needed a system that would be easy to understand and follow, and it had to work FAST. (Did I mention she was desperate?)

Almost by accident, she finally discovered a method that got results. She found that her kids were fully able to grasp the concept of actions and consequences if it was taught and demonstrated correctly. She developed a system based on this and used it on her children. What happened? The kids were well-mannered, polite and respectful after only two weeks!

Since other people noticed a dramatic difference in her kids – she could actually take them places now – Gail got lots of questions and pleas for help from other parents. Every family she coached got results just like she got in a matter of weeks! Before long, it became impossible to personally help all the people who asked for it, so now there’s a video about her child behavior repair method online.

The bottom line? Learn from successful parents. Not “experts”, unless they are also successful parents. And don’t give up!

Potty Training Problems

Potty training is new territory for your toddler. Up until now, they have been happy-go-lucky, learning about her new world at there own pace and making all kinds of exciting discoveries. They have learned how to form sounds into words that communicate what they want, she’s learned how to put her legs under her and walk and all this was done at her own pace. They probably thinks she invented walking and talking. Now all of a sudden, someone has decided she will no longer relieve herself in her diaper and plops her down on a potty and tells her to “go”.

This is fertile ground for potty training problems. Prevention is the Best Cure Look at potty training from the child’s perspective. What kind of introduction has she had to the toilet and the bathroom in general. Has this room been off-limits before now? Let her follow you into the bathroom before you start potty training her. Answer the questions that occur.

Let her flush the toilet and sit on it with the lid closed first. Believe it or not, many children are afraid of the toilet. They see things go down and not come back and wonder if that can happen to them.

When they are comfortable being around the toilet, let her sit on the seat. If they feels afraid, buy her a potty seat that snaps on securely or a potty chair. Humans are born with the fear of falling and sitting on a toilet seat with nothing under her can make your child feel like she’s going to fall.

Regression, is when a child begins to learn potty training, then suddenly seems to lose ground. Children who were perfectly happy to go along with the potty training routine all of a sudden begin having accidents frequently. Regression isn’t always a problem.

There may be an external factor such as a change in the environment that’s causing the regression or it may just be that they want to slow down a little. Most experts agree that periods of regression are normal during potty training and, unless there is a medical condition such as a urinary tract infection, they do not need intervention. Simply continue to gently encourage her with her potty training and they will get back on track.

Most potty training problems can be identified by looking at them through your child’s eyes. Inconsistencies, fears, punishment for accidents and regression can all trigger potty training problems.
